At the tip of Cape Cod sits an old fishing town, rich in history and artistry..... and the most magnificent lighting! That Cape town is Provincetown. I had never been until a few years back, but it has become one of my most favorite places on earth and has drawn me back to my love of photography! Driving along the Shore Road through Truro you come upon a sign... "Welcome to Provincetown". It's at that point you have reached what I would call a small slice of heaven.
It's hard to explain, but there really is something magical about this town! Whether it's the flurry of activity along Commercial Street with it's quaint shops and galleries, or possibly a quiet walk in the west end of town on an early morning, there is something about this town's energy that is captivating. The artists in this town will tell you that there is something very special about the lighting. Perhaps it has to due with this strip of land at the tip of the Cape being so narrow, with the bay on one side and the ocean on the other, as it is only three miles long and two main thoroughfares wide (primarily Commercial Street and Bradford Street). Whatever the reason, the lighting you see and feel in this town is magnificent! Add to that the fact that it is drenched in rich history and art, being widely recognized as the oldest continuous art colony in the United States, you can't help fall in love with it!
Follow along with me as I share the wonders of this magnificent town...... known as Provincetown.
